Meet Your Hosts: Liz & Gustavo

Our Story

Sometimes life takes you somewhere you never planned to go… and it ends up being exactly where you’re meant to be.

2012

I joined Obertal Inn in 2012 as a part-time breakfast attendant. At the time, I was focused on school and just wanted a job that would help me reach my goal. My plan was to become a nurse. Life, however, had a different plan for me.

2013–2021 | More Than Just a Job

I was offered a position at the front desk. I accepted without realizing that what I thought was “just another job” would eventually become my career and a place that would feel like home. I spent the next several years working at the front desk, and those years gave me so much more than experience.

I had the opportunity to meet wonderful guests from all over the world. One of the favorite parts of working here has always been seeing familiar faces that keep coming back year after year. Some of those guests remember me from when I was pregnant with my first baby. Today they still ask about my kids, almost as if they’ve watched them grow up. Obertal has never been just a hotel. It’s a place where relationships are built, and where guests become part of our extended family.

During those years, Hans and Andrea also became much more than our employers. They became our friends. When my husband and I got married in 2014, they were there celebrating with us. This means a lot to us because it reminds us that Obertal has always been about the people and the relationships we’ve bult along the way. As our family grew, Obertal grew with us.

Both of our kids are what we lovingly call “Obertal babies.” They’ve walked these halls since they were little, grown up knowing so many of our employees, and getting to know so many of the guests who have watched them grow over the years.

2021

In 2021, I approached Hans with a simple question. I asked if he could teach me some basic accounting so I could better understand the business and help wherever I could.

Around the same time, the Assistant Manager position became available.

To be honest, I wasn’t sure I was ready.

I was a mom of two young kids, and the position came with a lot more responsibility. My husband encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone and give it a chance. I’m thankful I did. That opportunity challenged me, taught me so much, and gave me the confidence I did not know I had. Saying “Yes” gave us the opportunity to something much bigger than we ever imagined.

A Dream We Never Expected

A few years later, my husband joined the Obertal team as Operations Manager.

Working together has been an incredible experience. We’ve learned so much, not only about running a hotel, but about leadership, serving others, and building a team that genuinely cares about one another. Hans and Andrea believed in us every step of the way. They’ve trusted us, encouraged us, and given us opportunities that truly changed our lives. For that, we’ll always be grateful.

The Next Chapter

Today, we’re honored to continue the story of Obertal Inn.

Our goal isn’t to change what makes this place special. It’s to continue the vision that Hans and Andrea created, a place where guests feel welcomed, employees feel appreciated, and people leave feeling like they’ve found a home away from home.

As parents of two children, we’re excited (and yes, a little nervous!) to begin this new chapter as a family-owned business. We want to continue welcoming guests the way they always have been welcomed, caring for our employees the way we’ve always been cared for, and building a place our children, hopefully one day their children can be proud of.

We know we have big shoes to fill; we’ll do our very best to continue the legacy Hans and Andrea built over so many years. To everyone who has supported Obertal Inn over the years, our guests, our employees, our community, and especially Hans and Andrea…
